The some 30 000 Vietnamese graduates from Bulgarian universities are a crucial prerequisite for boosting the bilateral business relations, according to the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

Borisov received Thursday Vietnam's First Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung and members of a Vietnamese government and business delegation.

Nguyen has congratulated the Prime Minister for Bulgaria’s active role in the making of political decision within the EU, and expressed his satisfaction with the settlement of Vietnam’s debt to Bulgaria that he arranged on Wednesday with Bulgarian Finance Minister Simeon Djankov.

According to Wednesday’s agreement, Vietnam is going to pay Bulgaria USD 725 000 of the total of USD 1.325 M owed to it within a month, while the rest will be recognized as official development aid provided by Bulgaria.

Borisov and Nguyen agreed that the bilateral relations have a great potential to cooperate in industry, energy, agriculture as well as education, including the exchange of students.

“The Bulgarian government works actively with your state leaders. The fact that 30 000 Vietnamese have completed their university degrees in Bulgaria creates serious prerequisites for the faster development of our relations. Bulgaria can provide Vietnamese firms with an access to the markets of the Balkans and the EU,” said Boyko Borisov.

The graduates that Borisov referred to came to Bulgaria mostly in the era before 1989 when Vietnam had exclusively strong ties with the communist bloc in Eastern Europe.

The Vietnamese government delegation is on a four-day visit to Bulgaria.
