Bulgarian Woman Sentenced to Four Years in OneCoin Crypto Fraud
A Bulgarian woman, Irina Dilkinska, has been handed a four-year prison sentence for her involvement in a large-scale fraud scheme orchestrated by the cryptocurrency company OneCoin.
Two higher-ranking civil servants from the Education Ministry are suspected of high school ending exam fraud, Bulgarian Interior Minister announced Monday.
Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said that if confirmed, the suspects will be disciplinary punished because the law does not allow punishing them with criminal charges.
Tsvetanov added that the two officials did not have direct access to the papers for the Bulgarian Language and Literature exam, but had managed to get the information anyway.
The exam’s questions and answers have been traded on the Internet for BGN 600, high-school seniors, parents and teachers said.
The Bulgarian private TV channel Pro.BG has met with Eli, the daughter of Krasimir Levterov, who allegedly leaked the information for the exam through her.
One of Eli's friends has told the police that he knew the theme from her. Eli, however, has denied the accusations that she knew the theme.
“I do not have an explanation why Yavor pointed me as the source of the leak. We have discussed the preparation for the exam and I have given him sample themes that I have done throughout the year,” Eli said.
The girl has not met with her friend since the scandal. She saw him for the last time at their graduation in May.
Eli is now focusing on her preparation for the Painting and Mathematics exams because she wants to study at the Bulgarian University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy. She has gone to courses and private lessons. Her father has also helped her prepare.
Krasimir Levterov has said he was interested in the exam questions as much as any other parent. He has firmly denied any accusations and has claimed he did not even have the right connections, in order to find out the answers.
