The Minister without Portfolio for Bulgarians Abroad, Bozhidar Dimitrov, announced Monday this institution will offer assistance to individuals in Honduras who wish to obtain Bulgarian citizenship.

According to Dimitrov, anywhere between 7 000 and 10 000 people with Bulgarian background live in the South American country, adding he found out, to his own surprise, the Bulgarian community there is quite large and they “do not fight among themselves.”

The Minister further promised the State will help Bulgarians in Honduras to establish their own church and school.

Dimitrov reiterated as his main goal the effort to overcome the demographic crisis in Bulgaria by alleviating and accelerating the procedure for granting Bulgarian citizenship, pointing out Bulgarians in South America, including people with mixed marriages, have 7 to 10 children.
