On his birthday Sunday, the Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov will proudly present the recently cleaned Garibaldi Square to his Italian counterpart Silvio Berlusconi.

One of the most famous squares in the Bulgarian capital Sofia has gone through a major transformation, due to the visit of the Italian PM.

In the past two weeks, Garibaldi Square has been intensively cleaned and reconstructed. At the meeting on Sunday noon, Borisov and Berlusconi will officially open the newly erected monument of Giuseppe Garibaldi of Bulgarian sculptor Georgi Chapkarov.

Due to the event, the Sofia municipality issued a ban for parking near Garibaldi Square and ordered the closure of the tram station on Graf Ignatiev St. All the trams that go through the street will be stopped during the whole event.

The erection of the Giuseppe Garibaldi monument in Sofia is a reciprocity action of the Bulgarian government to the inauguration of the monument of prominent Bulgarian writer Ivan Vazov on May 21 in Rome.
