The US Ambassador to Bulgaria, James Warlick, launched Saturday the “Volunteers Days” which will be held in the capital Sofia and the cities of Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Varna, Shumen and Burgas.

Over 650 volunteers from Bulgarian and foreign companies are taking part the initiative titled “Let’s Turn the Black into Green,” aiming at improving the environment in Bulgaria.

In Sofia, the activities began with the cleaning and painting of the equipment, benches and cages at the Sofia Zoo.

In the frame of the event, the Ambassador, the Environment Minister, Nona Karadzhova, and the Regional Minister, Rosen Plevneliev, bestowed the 5th annual awards from the “Green Municipality” program, which aims at encouraging Bulgarian cities and towns to build and maintain green spaces.
