The Bulgarian Embassy in Washington DC is now part of the initiative EU Open House 2010, organized for the fourth time in a row in the US capital.
The news was reported Tuesday by Bulgaria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Embassy held an open house event Monday aiming at showcasing Bulgaria's national and cultural identity and its contributions to the European democratic and humanitarian values.
In 6 hours the event has been visited by a record 3 500 people, compared to 2 500 last year, according to the Ministry.
The visitors had the opportunity to see the exhibit “The Power of the Civic Society,” dedicated to the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during World War II, which was officially opened by Bulgaria's Foreign Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, on April 29, and the pictures from the other display titled “Bulgaria's Return to Europe and the End of the 19th and the Beginning of the 20th Century.”
The event also included tasting of typical Bulgarians meals and red vine and giving away of brochures advertising the country as a tourist destination.
