Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov has met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York.
“Bulgaria is an a good position to balance the situation in the Balkans,” Ban Ki-moon has told Mladenov, as cited by the press office of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
The major topics of Mladenov’s conversation with the UN Secretary-General included the regional issues in the Balkans such as the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Macedonia.
Mladenov, who is starting a tour of the Balkans on Wednesday, has notified Ban Ki-moon of a new, active Bulgarian position on the situation in the region, which is based on the principle that the win for one Balkan country does not signify a loss for the others.
The UN Secretary-General has used the occasion to thank the Bulgarian society for its generous support for the relief efforts for quake-stricken Haiti.
