Bulgaria’s prime minister has had secret meetings during his official visit to the Serbian capital Belgrade, correspondents say and provide scarce details.
Under strict security measures, Boyko Borisov has spent more than four hours of his stay in Belgrade for what are believed to have been meetings with members of the Serbian security services.
The Bulgarian delegation, accompanying the prime minister, includes Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the head of the National Intelligence Service Kircho Kirov and the chairman of the State Security Agency (DANS) Tsvetlin Yovchev.
The issues discussed during the meetings of the prime minister and the members of the delegation have not been disclosed. No comments have been made on the recent reports that the Bulgarian prime minister will be summoned as a witness in the trial against alleged Blakan drug lord Sreten Josic.
According to Darik radio reports, which cited undisclosed sources, the prime minister will not be summoned as a witness in the trial.
At the beginning of April last year Sreten Josic made headlines in Bulgaria, telling a Belgrade court he enjoyed the protection of high-ranking officials here, citing the names of the then Interior Chief Secretary Boyko Borisov, who was later elected Sofia mayor and prime minister of the country, and Nikolay Gigov, owner of Lokomotiv football club.
Borisov vehemently denied the allegations, accusing the former ruling three-party coalition of crafting a long-term strategy to discredit him.
