The Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will be on a two-day official visit in Syria, announced Thursday the governmental press office.

During his stay in the Arab Republic, April 24-25, Borisov will meet with the Syrian President Bashar Assad and Prime Minister Mohammed Naji Otri to sign bilateral agreements relating to the economy, transport and finance.

A business forum with both Bulgarian and Syrian representation will also be held.

The Bulgarian official delegation includes Finance Minister Simeon Djankov, Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov and the Economy Minister Traicho Traikov.

Bulgaria and Syria established diplomatic relations back in 1954 and have been on good terms ever since. Both countries are members of the Union of the Mediterranean, a partnership initiated by French President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008 between EU members and some non EU countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea that deals with energy, security, counter-terrorism and immigration.
