Bulgarian nationalist Volen Siderov, leader of the Ataka party, has had all pre-trial proceedings related to allegations of insulting behaviour, dropped.

Siderov was under investigation for his scandalous behavior on a February flight to the German city of Frankfurt, when he had argued with and insulted members of the aircrew.

On arrival at Frankfurt airport, Siderov was detained, then later released by the German police after he showed his diplomatic passport.

The police filed a complaint against the Bulgarian politician, thereby provoking the prosecutor's probe and pre-trail proceedings for violating German in-flight laws.

Siderov had initially denied the incident report, but it was confirmed by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry. He threatened to sue “Lufthansa” only to extend his apologies some days later, on his return to Bulgaria.

The fact that he had apologized, and that it was accepted, has ultimately forced the German legal proceedings to be dropped.

The decision had been taken a week ago, but was not announced until this Monday, only after Volen Siderov himself had been informed by the German authorities.
