US Ambassador to Bulgaria, James Warlick, has made it clear he had no intention of meeting with ex secret agent Aleksei Petrov, who is facing organized crime charges.

Petrov was arrested in the so called Operation Octopus – which has been praised by the US Ambassador as an exemplary police operation – and has been charged with leading an organized crime group.

On February 17, Petrov’s lawyer, Rumyana Radkova, announced that the former agent of Bulgaria’s State National Security Agency DANS had send a letter to Ambassador Warlick, asking for a meeting with him in order to reveal that he is the victim of politically motivated prosecution.

“I have received Aleksei Petrov’s letter but I have no intention of meeting with him,” said His Excellency on Friday during the ceremony for signing a protocol for cooperation with the Sofia City Court.

Ambassador Warlick expressed his trust in the Bulgarian justice system, and his believe that the Bulgarian court will come up with a just ruling in Aleksei Petrov’s case.
