The District Prosecutor in the southern Bulgarian city of Sliven, Peycho Hitov, died suddenly Sunday evening.
The sad news was reported Thursday by the spokesperson of the Sliven Prosecutor’s Office, Violeta Kalaydzhieva, who informed that Hitov collapsed and could not be revived by the Emergency Room doctors. He passed away at 6:45 pm Sunday.
The magistrates and the prosecutors from Sliven say they are deeply shocked and saddened by Hitov’s death. They issued a letter mourning the loss of a “dignified individual and respected and beloved colleague.”
The Sliven coroner had begun a probe since the cause of death is still unknown and over Hitov’s high-ranking job.
According to the coroner, who examined the body already, the Prosecutor had been in good health without significant health issues and complaints and no visible trauma.
The funeral will take place Friday in Sliven.
Peycho Hitov became Head of the Sliven District Prosecutor’s Office in 2004 and was reelected for a second term at the end of 2009. His candidature for the post was the only one and was submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) by Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev.
Peycho Hitov is a descendent of the renown Bulgarian leader in the fight against the Ottoman rule, Panayot Hitov.
