Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov has received greetings from a number of top world leaders for Bulgaria’s Liberation Day, March 3.

“Keeping in mind the constant progress of your country, I pray to the Almighty God that your nation share the general concern for the common good and help for the overall development of humanity,” Pope Benedict XVI says in his letter to President Parvanov.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has likewise called upon Bulgaria on its national holiday to support any efforts for a more prosperous and just world.

“I have the pleasure of sending most cordial wishes for a peaceful and successful future to you and the Bulgarian people,” UK Queen Elizabeth wrote in her address to Parvanov.

“I am convinced that the deep historic traditions between our countries in the foundation of the spiritual community between our two peoples determine the long-term perspective of our friendly relations,” Russian President Dmitry Medvedev wrote to Parvanov alongside greetings for Liberation Day.

“Our countries are traditionally close in a variety of ways... I am convinced that on this basis we can cope with joint European and global challenges,” German President Horst Koehler states in his letter to Parvanov for March 3.

The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has send to Bulgaria wishes for progress and prosperity, and for deepening cooperation. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has stated his hopes for successful joint programs, bilaterally or within the EU structures.

Other world leaders who greeted Bulgaria for its Liberation Day are Japan’s Emperor Akihito, the President of Ireland Mary McAleese, Czech President Vaclav Klaus, Netherlands Queen Beatrix, President of Palestinian Authority, Mahmud Abbas, Austrian President Heinz Fischer, Belgian King Albert II.
