The Danube as well as several smaller Bulgarian rivers could spill out causing floods as a result of the high precipitation.

The warning has been issued by the National Meteorology and Hydrology Center and the European Early Warning System.

The rivers Arda, Maritsa, and Tundzha in Southern Bulgaria may cause floods not unlike the southeastern-most Ropotamo River, which flooded the Sozopol-Tsarevo road on Monday, the Environment Ministry announced.

12 municipalities in Northeastern Bulgaria are in an emergency situation over the inclement weather and the heavy snowfall. Bulgaria is forecast to see snow- and rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday, and the danger of local floods is rather real.
