Several street sections in Sofia city center have been temporarily closed to traffic at 10 am on Monday, to allow for more efficient clearing of overnight snow.

The situation in the Bulgarian capital is difficult because of the accumulation of snow and as a result of heavy traffic, Sofia municipality has announced.

City transport is moving under winter conditions, with some public transport routes running 30 – 40 minutes behind schedule.

Electricity and heating supplies throughout the city are normal.

Early on Monday morning, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova held an operational meeting with the managers of the companies contracted to clear snow in the capital.

The Mayor has ordered the companies to continue their work after the rush hour, and to clean up subways and bus stations around the city.

She also told them to clear the steeper sections of streets within the quarters with all necessary equipment, as well as part of the street network in Banyka, where public transport cannot reach its destinations.

At the insistence of the mayor, due to the fallen snow, the road Pernik - Sofia is now closed to trucks.
For half an hour, Sitniakovo Blvd in Sofia will be closed, reported Sofia Municipality. The closure of the road from Poduyane railway station to the Romanian Embassy is in order to quickly clean the snow along the boulevard.

In addition, the road from Pernik to Sofia is now closed to heavy vehicles.

Sitniakovo Boulevard in Sofia will be briefly closed, the municipality said.  The road from Poduyane railway station to the Romanian Embassy has also been closed in order to quickly clean the snow along the boulevard.
