The US will begin issuing visas valid for 10 years to all Bulgarians, who are approved by the Embassy in Sofia as eligible to enter the country.
The news was announced by new US Ambassador to Sofia, James Warlick, who met with Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.
Until now, all Bulgarian citizens, who wished to travel to the US, were supposed to appear for an interview at the Embassy to assess their eligibility, but were issued visas with different lengths of stay.
Borisov and Warlick had further discussed the program to eliminate all visa requirements for Bulgarians.
Bulgarian tourists and businessmen will now have to visit the Embassy only once every 10 years.
“We hope this change will be seen as a sign of the US trust in Bulgaria. In long-term perspective, we believe Bulgaria will be included in the visa elimination program,” Warlick said.
Bulgaria's PM thanked the Ambassador, saying the 10-year visas are a step forward.
