Bulgaria and Romania are going to ask Tuesday morning the European Commission to intervene over the blockade of the Bulgarian border checkpoints by Greek farmers.

This was announced Monday night by Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov who told BNT that Bulgaria was incurring significant losses as a result of the blockade of the Greek farmers who are demanding better agricultural produce prices.

Borisov stated firmly that Bulgaria would demand that the blockade be lifted by Wednesday morning, or would ask the EC to impose sanctions on Greece because it was not going to pay for the problems of another state.

“We are becoming very harsh in our position from here on. For a person with a small business losing BGN 500 or 1000 is a big deal. That is why we want to see the blockade end by Wednesday, or we will be demanding compensations because we as a state cannot go about our regular business,” Borisov stated.
