Bulgaria’s National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency has come up with a plan for a unified university accreditation system.
This has been announced by the NEAA head, Prof. Ivan Panayotov, who has stated that the new system would incorporate elements from the currently existing institutional and program accreditation requirements.
According to the head of the Higher Education and Science Syndicate, Prof. Lilyana Valcheva, the new model must become part of the new Higher Education Act.
The new accreditation system is going to include a ranking of higher education institutions including positive and negative ranking. The universities will be receiving their accreditation for periods ranging from 3 to 6 years. Those who get the six-year ones will be subject to a minimum number of inspections by the NEAA. The various education programs of the universities will be ranked on a scale from 0 to 10.
