Bulgaria Defense Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, stated Friday that Bulgaria is considering sending an extra 20-30 troops to join the Bulgarian force guarding Kandahar Airport.

Mladenov said that 20-30 extra Bulgarian army troops may be sent at the start of 2010 and he also added that he is considering increasing Bulgarian troop numbers by a total of 70 in 2010.

After attending the memorial service to the 13 Bulgarian soldiers who have died in the war in Iraq, Mladenov said that the Council of Ministers would discuss the possible troop increase next week.

Bulgaria is expected to clarify the Bulgarian forces mission in Afghanistan in the next few weeks before the international conference on Afghanistan in London in January.
