Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Elects New President Online
The draft law on the development of academic staff will lead to "the equalizing of universities of different scientific levels," the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has announced.
The draft, proposed by Bulgarian Education Minister Sergey Ignatov, states that each college and/ or university should have as many professors and associate professors as it wants. Thus, the number of people with scientific titles will be significantly increased.
According to the BAS General Assembly, thousands of new professors will appear, and the title of "Professor" and "Associate Professor" will become terms of ridicule rather than respect.
The main defect of the draft law is evident in the lower requirements for quality standards, the Academy of Sciences stated on Thursday.
