The oldest secondary institution in Bulgarian, the Sofia University, marked Wednesday the day of its Patron Saint “Kliment Ohridski.”
The festivities included the laying of a wreath at the “St. Kliment Ohridski” Monument, the opening of a new exhibit hall inside the university building, addresses from the University President, Ivan Ilchev and official guests to teachers and students, a performance of the university drama troupe “Alma Mater,” and an awards ceremony for recognitions and scholarships.
The guests included the Education Minister, Sergey Ignatov, the President of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, Ivaylo Mirchev, current and former university professors.
The President announced that beginning in 2011, the university will hold a new type of entrance exam that will be better aligned with European standards and would involve mostly the liberal arts disciplines.
The new exam, defined by Ilchev as “an exam with different types of test tasks” will be prepared by university professors and will be presented in the spring to the Academic Council. Upon approval, the new exam will be announced in the fall of 2010 and will become effective in 2011.
