The newly appointed Bulgarian Education Minister, Sergey Ignatov, vows to personally read all school textbooks that have received complaints from parents and students of being difficult to comprehend.

According to Ignatov, the textbooks, which include poorly written and difficult to understand content, are the culprit for the high level of illiteracy and ignorance among Bulgaria's school students.

The Minister made the statement in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), promising that his Ministry would work on preparing better material for schools students, adding he is very well aware most school books are written by college professors, which contributes to the problem.

Ignatov set for himself a deadline of 2 to 3 months to read all books currently in use in the country's school system.

The Education Ministry is to further take a firm stand on the procedure of approving textbooks and will seek a feasible balance between the number of books allowed to be used at one school.

Ignatov says the effort to present a better school content and to change the system for textbook selection is just beginning and no one should expect immediate results.
