Bulgaria: Bulgaria Ku Klux Klan Event Organizers: There Is Nothing Wrong The news about the Ku Klux Klan concert in Asenovgrad attended by people from as far away as Switzerland and Canada broke after the Asenovgrad Mayor ordered an audit of municipally-owned assets. File photo

The people who seem to be among the organizers of the alleged Ku Klux Klan meeting in the Bulgarian town of Asenovgrad on September 12 believe that nothing wrong has happened.

Anton Sariev, who rents the public library hall where the neo-Nazi concert took place, is actually the chair of an NGO called "Beyond Borders". The proclaimed aims of the NGO are to hold music events and to call upon young people to remain in Bulgaria.

"I totally disagreed with the claims that the club that we have rented in Asenovgrad is a meeting place of neo-Nazi organizations and people calling for white supremacy," Sariev told the BGNES news agency.

He also said the night of the Ku Klux Klan event he gave the key of the public library hall to a friend of his, Lyuben Grozev, who was in charge of the sound during the concert, but that he himself was not present at the event.

Grozev himself said there were about 100-120 people present in the club including young women. All of the young men present there were skin heads. He did confirm he saw people dressed in Ku Klux Klan wear, and that there were swastikas around the place but he denied having heard any racist slogans such as "Kill the Jew".

Sariev and Grozev believe the Ku Klux Klan reports are too exaggerated, and are probably the result of some business interests conspiring to take over the public library hall that their NGO has been renting.
