600 more workers will be laid off by the ailing Bulgarian steel mill Kremikovtzi, according to its syndic, Tsvetan Bankov.
3 100 workers are still employed in the plant, which used to employ close to 10 000 in its best days. However, according to its recovery program, those employed have to be reduced to 2 500.
Bankov told Darik Radio he had refused to sign a collective labor contract despite the insistence on part of the trade unions because there was no way to raise the money for the additional welfare benefits such a contract would entail.
In his words, it is unclear whether the bankrupt factory is going to be saved at all.
