The Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office began its own investigation of the tragic incident in the Ohrid Lake in Macedonia, in which 15 Bulgarians died Saturday.
The information was reported Sunday by Kamen Mihov from the Supreme Prosecutor's Office of Cassations.
In the mean time, Bulgaria's President, Georgi Parvanov, promised, upon his return from Ohrid, that pictures and videotapes from the work of the divers, was going to be sent to Bulgaria and submitted to the Chief Prosecutor.
Parvanov already met with the Chief Prosecutor to discuss the investigation. Bulgarian investigators will travel to Ohrid to work on the spot of the accident.
The President said that two likely causes had emerged until now - a torn rope or the overloading of the boat beyond the allowable weight limit, adding his Macedonian counterpart, George Ivanov, had made the commitment to conduct a swift investigation, including both Macedonian and Bulgarian experts.
The bodies of the victims were transported Saturday night to the capital Skopje for autopsy. Bulgarian coroners will also take part to assist their Macedonian colleagues. Latest reports say the autopsies had already begun.
The relatives of the victims are to travel to Macedonia Monday to identify them. Only then can the bodies be transported to Bulgaria, per the Macedonian legislation.
