Bulgaria: Caretaker Prime Minister Replaced Chairman of State Agency for National Security
The Chairman of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) Dimitar Georgiev was relieved of his post following a decision of the Council of Ministers.
Bulgaria's President, Georgi Parvanov, offered Friday his first rather cautious assessment of the country's new cabinet.
Parvanov said that from the first 100 days of the new rule, only 40 have passed, so he did not want to talk hastily.
The President recommended not only a careful evaluation of the past, but the quick implementation of an anti-crisis program beyond just saving resources and shrinking budgets.
"It is easy to shrink our administration, but one cannot just say they will close all agencies without stating what is going to replace them," Parvanov pointed out.
The Head of State stressed that the plan he would support and which is, unfortunately not yet in place, would include ways to find investments for the production and the consumption.
Regarding the infamous report of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) with names of corrupt former minsters that allegedly was submitted and then concealed by former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, Parvanov declared he was never given such information.
The President reminded that since the law requires all information that leaves DANS to be submitted both to him and the PM, he did not believe such "super" report has been indeed prepared.
