Bulgarian tour operators and tourist companies have recorded a 10-15% fall in the number of tourists and a 30% decrease in earnings for the summer 2009 season.

After a large number of predictions on how the Bulgaria summer season tourist season would be affected some figures are starting to be released by leading tourist companies.

The chairman of the Union of owners at the Sunny Beach resort, Elena Ivanova, stated that according to her information the number of tourists staying in hotels at the resort have fallen 10-12% year on year, with a 30% decrease in earnings. Reports from the Golden Sands resort tell a similar story.

One tour operator working on the Black Sea coast reported the largest fall in tourists from the UK and Scandinavia, with over 30% less tourists from there when compared to 2008 figures.
