The Bulgarian Traffic Police have reported that they have set up 9 extra check points on the Burgas - Sofia highway in an attempt to control an expected boom in holiday traffic.

The Sliven regional police department informed that they had set up a number of check points in the areas known for accidents.

They expect Sunday to be one of the busiest days of the year for their traffic department as thousands of Sofia residents will be returning from their summer breaks on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

The police also stated that they would be inspecting the weight of trucks at regular intervals, to try and stop heavy lorries from traveling on "dangerously hot' asphalt during the day.

It was later reported that special medical teams will be based at certain points along the Trakiya highway to help struggling travelers.
