Bulgarian Attackers of Scots Couple "Closer to Justice"
A gang of machete thugs who attacked an expat Scottish couple in Bulgaria are one step closer to justice, according to the head of the Bulgarian consulate in Dundee.
The Scottish couple who were attacked by a violent gang in their house near Pleven have arrived safely back in the UK, local Scottish newspaper The Courier reported.
Alan and Sylvia Cantwell from Friockheim in Scotland were reportedly happily at home, but only arrived with the clothes they were wearing after fleeing across Europe.
The Courier reported that the "Former Friockheim residents Alan and Sylvia Cantwell were forced to flee from the country after they were battered and robbed by a violent gang at the home they moved to six months ago."
Four crazed robbers raided the terrified couple's house, set in a rural area near the city of Pleven, subjected them to a series of sickening attacks before brutally slaying their two pet bulldogs, Meg and Sam.
During their ordeal earlier this month, Alan (64) was repeatedly struck with a pick axe handle and Sylvia (63) was pinned down to her bed with a blade at her face, before the gang ransacked their house and made off with a quantity of jewelery.
