Shocker: Bulgaria Drops from UK Tourists' Cheapest Summer Spots List
In an unexpected turn, Bulgaria and Turkey have been notably absent from the list of the ten cheapest European summer destinations for British tourists
The airport in Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas marked a slight decrease in the number of passengers it processed in July on an annual base, German firm Fraport, who owns a 35-year concession for the airport, said.
Despite expectations for heavy traffic, the passengers served at Burgas airports in July were down by 11.4% year-upon-year totaling 499 148. The airport however reported a 30% increase in the number of passengers in the second quarter in comparison with the same period the previous year.
The airport management pointed out that some tour operators report a rise in the tourists who grabbed last-minute offers, while others recorded a considerable fall in bookings.
Tourists from Germany, traditionally the primary market for visitors to Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, account for the biggest part of passengers served at the airport - 207 851 from the beginning of the year till August.
There are 25 airlines flying to 20 destinations in Germany.
