The Bulgarian Health Ministry has failed to put in use EUR 3 M of EU funds for medical equipment in the field of oncology.
This has been announced Tuesday by the Ambassador of Finland in Bulgaria, Kauko Jämsén, at a meeting with the Health Ministry, Bozhidar Nanev, Darik Radio reported.
The money were intended to fund a joint project between Bulgaria and Filand for the improvement of radiation protection isolation of oncology treatment equipment.
A check up showed that the reason for the money not to be used is the poor organization and falure to meet the requirement of the Bulgarian Public Procurement Law.
The procedure on choosing a supplier was stopped in October, 2008. This caused the Central Bureau for Financing and Contracts in the Finance Ministry to lose its accreditation.
During the meeting, Nanev suggested that the two countries improve their collaboration in the health care services, especially in the field of transplantation of organs, tissues and cells.
