Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Boriov, promised Monday that the police will be helped by changes in the legislation.
One of the first amendments to be discussed is regarding the investigators' right to access data, after a judge has approved, on calls between mobile operators customers, Borisov explained.
"In order to raise policemen's salaries, there must be budget incomes", he said.
Borisov said that together with the Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, they had outlined the Ministry's priorities.
In his words, the main priorities for the Interior Ministry are to get the traffic in the capital Sofia and the heavy traffic on the Bulgarian Highways under control, to take measures against the corruption in the traffic police.
Another thing that will be among the priorities is the drug trafficking fight. According to the Prime Minister, it is important not only to fight the big organized groups, but also smaller local drug dealers.
Tsetanov said that until the new school year begins there must be a clear plan for the fight against the drug dealing, especially in the school areas.
Speaking of the recent scandal on the public procurement for buying printing machines for the preliminary investigation office, Tsvetanov explained that the deal was allowed by the ex-Interior Minister, Mihail Mikov.
The Ministry bought printers at the price of BGN 1 397 each. A check up showed that distributing companies had asked for BGN 300-400 a piece.
Tsvetanov added that there would be a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of the company that delivered the printers, and if irregularities were established the case will be given to the Prosecutor's Office.
