Sofia Expects 7-10% Increase in Tourist Numbers in 2015
Deputy Sofia Mayor Todor Chobanov has predicted a 7-10% increase in the number of tourists in the capital in 2015.
Representatives of the Bulgarian Association of Tourism Agencies (BATA) have proposed to the new government that Bulgarian holidaymakers in Bulgaria should be granted tax relief.
Chair of BATA Donka Sokolova said in a statement that "We gave this idea to the previous government as a possible anti-crisis measure," cited by Bulgarian daily Standart.
"At a meeting with Deputy Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister Ivo Marinov on Thursday we decided to organize a meeting of tourist businesses, at which similar measures will be discussed in details," she added.
Sokolova continued; "Tax relief should become a part of the tax policy of the government. Such a move will encourage Bulgarian tourists to spend their holiday in their home country."
She concluded; "We notice a positive trend of more and more Bulgarians preferring to go round this country and to learn about its cultural and historical heritage and monuments. This is a way of bringing the grey economy to light. It will make the people ask for the "bill" at the end of their vacation, because if they don't present it as evidence to the relevant authorities, they won't be able to get the tax relief they are entitled to."
