The mayor of the Northern town of Vratsa is expected to take over Bulgaria's Social and Labor Ministry, according to local media reports.

Totyu Mladenov will enter the center-right minority government of GERB as a reward for sweeping the local elections with 56% in a town, which has traditionally been one of the strongholds of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, 24 Hours daily reported, citing undisclosed insiders.

The nomination of Mladenov for minister will trigger new local elections in Vratza, the second Bulgarian town to elect new mayor after the capital Sofia.

Before serving as mayor Mladenov was head of the Chief Labor Inspectorate and deputy chairman of one of the biggest trade unions in Bulgaria, Podkrepa.

The nomination of Mladenov for Social and Labor Minister is interpreted as a sign that the new Bulgarian government will assign priority to its ties with non-governmental organizations.
