Chaotic Brawl Erupts in Georgian Parliament Over Foreign Agents Law
A dramatic scene unfolded in the Georgian parliament as chaos erupted during discussions over a draft law on foreign agents
The parliament groups of the ex-ruling parties BSP and DPS have proposed that the number of the sessions in the new Parliament should be cut.
The proposal was made Wednesday during the first meeting of the temporary parliamentary committee responsible for the establishment of interior regulations of the National Assembly, Darik Radio reported.
According Yanaki Stoilov, from BSP, and Lyutvi Mestan, from DPS, the measure is needed in order to optimize the work of the Parliament.
"One of the main things that determine the trust in the Parliament are the relations between the MPS and the citizens, and it must be strengthened. That is why I my offer is to cut two or three days of the number of sessions every month", Stoilov said.
In Mestan's words, after January 2010 there will be a deficit of topics in the agenda.
"I think that currently we have plenty of time to be with our voters. If there is a good will, as well as political and personal will, each one of the MPs can do that", Iskra Fidosova, chair of the committee, said.
During the first session of the committee, its members announced that the total number of committees will be reduced from 25 to 18-29.
The right-wing Blue Coalition will propose a restriction on formation of parliamentary groups of independent MPs, or the formation of of parliamentary group out of two existing ones.
The committee also discussed the new check insystem in the Parliament, which purpose is to fight the practice of voting with someone else's identification card. The system has already been bought, and will soon be installed.
The MPs will enter and exit the Parliament building only by verifying their cads.
