Bulgarian capital Sofia is just like Paris and Vienna, except for the significantly lower prices, the US newspaper, Dallas Morning News, wrote.
"Also high on the list of fresh destination options is Sofia, Bulgaria. The city's past comes together in its mix of Christian Orthodox, Islamic and Jewish churches. Along the side streets are up-market restaurants and cafes that might be in Paris or Vienna - except for the prices."
Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is another handsome city, the newspaper wrote. Long-popular Prague, as beautiful and interesting city as it is, has become crowded and expensive, it added.
Croatia has been discovered, of course, but apart from Split and Dubrovnik, Zadar is worth exploring. Also, Belgrade and Novi Sad in Serbia, and Sarajevo and Mostar in Bosnia. Albania, too, is rising as an inexpensive destination, the newspaper wrote.
