Four people including one child were struck by lightning Wednesday in the village of Zmeitsa close to the southern Bulgarian town of Dospat.

The four people were working in the fields when a thunderstorm formed in the afternoon. They were struck as they were on their way back to the village probably because of their metal tools.

Two of them, women, have been hospitalized in the nearby city of Smolyan in a critical condition. The other two are in the Dospat hospital with minor injuries.
