The highest birth-rate in Bulgaria in the last 14 years has been registered in 2008.

The data was revealed through a report for the National Strategy for Demographic Development of Bulgaria, approved by the Cabinet Thursday.

Despite the increasing birth-rate, data from the National Statistics Institute (NSI) shows that by the end of 2008, Bulgaria's permanent population was 7,6 M, a decrease of 33 000 people.

For this reason, the Cabinet approved measures that aim to slow down the decrease of the country's population, which will be introduced before the end of the year.
