A day after confirming three more swine flu cases, Bulgarian health officials reported about another two infected patients.
These are the grandmother and grandfather of the child, in whom the virus was confirmed on Tuesday after their arrival from the United States.
The elderly patients are under medical observation and will be treated with anti-virus medication. The condition of the 71-year-old woman is more serious because of her additional chronic diseases.
"The number of infected people in Bulgaria will certainly increase as the country sees more and more arrivals back home," Health Minister Evgeni Zhelev said during his visit to the department for infectious deceases at the hospital in the town of Stara Zagora. He added that Bulgaria is ready to face this challenge and take care of the patients.
The minister said that the mother and her child, in whom the virus was confirmed a day earlier after their arrival from the United States, are recovering fast.
Bulgaria's Health Ministry confirmed Tuesday three more swine flu A(H1N1) cases with the first case where the virus has been transmitted from one person to another. The three individuals are a mother and her child, who arrived from the US on June 13 and another child, who was in contact with them.
This makes the confirmed swine flu cases in Bulgaria seven, the first being a college student and a 7-year-old child, both returning from the US. They underwent successful treatment and have been released from the hospital.
