British legal firm Irwin Mitchell has listed Bulgaria as the third worst tourist destination in the world regarding reports of legal issues reported by visitors.

The ranking by Irwin Mitchell is based on the number of received new complaints in 2008. Turkey came out as the worst with Egypt and Bulgaria close behind. Continental Spain and Majorca island share the fourth place while the African island Cape Verde is in the fifth place.

The representative of Irwin Mitchell, Clive Garner, explained that some countries appear for the first time, while some are dropping off the list of the five worst destinations, BGNES reported.

"This is a cyclic phenomenon, which partly is due to the trends in the holiday travels, for example the sudden increase of the popularity of certain destination compared to previous years.

This could be a sign that the standards are decreasing and adequate actions are not taken for coping with this problem in the respective resort", he added. The lack of elementary hygiene in the hotels is the cause for an increased number of illnesses, Garner concluded.
