A relative of Bulgaria's former Tsar and Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, was among the passengers of the ill-fated Air France flight 447.
The Brazilian authorities announced that Prince Pedro Luis de Orleans e Braganza was among the passengers of the missing plane.
The Prince, who was fourth in the line to the throne of the Brazilian crown, is said to have family ties with Simeon.
The Airbus 330-200 was last heard from early Monday. Flight AF 447 was heading from Brazil to Paris when it disappeared. There is little hope of finding survivors from among the 228 passengers and crew aboard the flight.
Most of those aboard were Brazilians while the others included 40 French people and at least 20 Germans, the French government said.
Six Danes, five Italians, three Moroccans and two Libyans are also believed to have been aboard, while the UK fears that some of its citizens were also passengers, the BBC reported.
