The first case of A (H1N1) flu has been registered in Bulgaria Monday, the Health Ministry has announced.
The infected Bulgarian citizen spent time in the USA, and arrived back from New York with a flight via Amsterdam on May 27.
The first flu symptoms appeared on May 29, and the man sought medical help on May 30 for the first time.
The infected man is isolated in an infectious diseases clinic, is receiving adequate treatment, and is currently in a good condition, according to the official statement of the Bulgarian Health Ministry.
Bulgaria's medical authorities have also identified and examined the 4 persons who have been in close contact with the infected man. None of them has shown any symptoms of the swine flu but all four are under permanent observation.
The Health Ministry states that its employees examine all sorts of patients with symptoms similar to A(H1N1), and that it is going to inform the Bulgarian public in a timely manner about a potential epidemic situation.
Bulgaria's Health Ministry has informed the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Control about the first swine flu case in the country.
