Bulgaria's cabinet voted Thursday to authorize the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Energy and Economy to sign an intergovernmental agreement for the construction of the Nabucco gas transit pipeline.

Bulgaria's Energy and Economy Minister, Petar Dimitrov, commented that providing the funding for the realization of the EU-sponsored Nabucco project was the job of the six companies that are part of the Nabucco consortium, including the Bulgarian Bulgargaz.

The securing of the natural gas supplies to fill the pipe, however, is more of a political issue rather than an economic one, and necessitates a political commitment on part of the interested states, Dimitrov said.
