Bulgarian officials have opened a hotline to handle incoming calls regarding the bus crash in south-eastern Bulgaria that claimed the lives of at least sixteen people.

People calling the hotline at 046 66 33 30, extension 317, will receive information about the casualties and those injured in the tragic accident.

A bus careered down a mountainside called Bakadzhik Peak and plowed through a crowd of pedestrians heading to a religious festival in southeastern Bulgaria Thursday, killing at least 16 people and injuring at least 20.

Police said the bus had failed to pull over due to a technical problem.

The accident happened near the site of a local fair crowded with people who were celebrating Orthodox Ascension Day.
