The Chairman of the Podkrepa Labor Confederation, Dr. Konstantin Trenchev, has suggested that the unemployment rate in Bulgaria will be over 10% in the fall.

"Unemployment rates are growing but talking of an unemployment leap is too far-fetched," Trenchev said, cited by Bulgarian daily newspaper Standart.

"I expect that in the fall the unemployment rates will reach over 10%," Trenchev added.

He went on to say that a large number of jobless Bulgarians do not register at the employment agencies and this results in distorted information being fed to the state institutions.

Trenchev concluded by stating that people working in the grey economy can't register and emigrants who return to Bulgaria live on saved money for certain periods of time again distorting government figures.

The unemployment rate in Bulgaria reached 7,02% in April, compared to 6,88% in March.
