The construction of the car factory in the village of Bahovitsa, near the city of Lovetch was officially launched Monday.

Bulgaria's Prime Minster, Sergey Stanishev, broke ground during the opening ceremony.

One of the largest Chinese car companies, "Great Wall", in collaboration with "Litex Motors" will build a plant to manufacture Bulgarian cars. The investment amount is EUR 80 M while the facility will initially create 1 000 new jobs.

The State supported the project when, in February, the Bulgarian Investment Agency, issued a First Class Investor Certificate to the Bulgaria-Chinese car investor.

It is expected that the production of the Hover model SUV will begin by the end of 2010 when the job opportunities will reach 3 000.

The factory's workers and managers will be educated at the Technical High School in Lovetch and the Technical University in Sofia.

The project's launch coincided with the Day of Lovetch.

At the ceremony, Stanishev said that the factory was a symbol of his Cabinet's policy to make the country attractive for foreign investments and to create new, competitive productions.
