Iran Interested in Pumping Gas to Bulgaria-Greece Link
Iran is seriously interested in delivering gas to the interconnection between Greece and Bulgaria, the latter country's Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova has announced.
The Nabucco gas pipeline project, whose goal is to allow Europe access to the Caspian resources, failed to receive the expected political support.
The information was reported Friday by the Bulgarian information agency BTA, citing diplomatic sources.
Three important players with rich gas deposits - Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan refused to sign the text of the final declaration of the Prague "Nabucco" Forum.
However, two other key gas nations - Azerbaijan and Egypt, along with the transit nations of Turkey and Georgia signed the joined declaration with the European Union leaders.
The US, Russia and the Ukraine were invited as observers. Iraq was also among the invitees, but did not send a representative.
The EU Summit in Prague had the goal to push forward the Nabucco pipeline project after the gas price war between Russia and the Ukraine left most of Europe without gas supplies in the middle of the winter.
The completed pipeline will be 3 300-kilometres long and has 2014 as a tentative deadline.
