The sales income of Bulgaria's biggest lead-acid batteries manufacturer, Monbat Plc, have decreased by 53% to BGN 25,7 M for the first quarter of 2009 year-on-year.

For the first three months of 2008 the company marked a double increase year-on-year.

The decrease is over the decline of sells, and the fall of lead prices on the international markets. In January 2009 the price of lead hit USD 1 132 per ton, which is a decrease of 57% year-on-year.

Other reasons for the fall are the Gas Crisis in January 2009 (Russia cut gas supply for numerous European countries over argument with the Ukraine), and the insufficient production of lead from the recycling facilities of the company.

That has lead to additional purchases of lead, which prices is significantly higher than the price of the lead produced in Monbat's facilities.
