The Deputy Director of the Geophysics Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Dimo Solakov, stated it was impossible an earthquake with the magnitude of the Saturday evening one, would cause any damages and injuries.
According to experts, if the shock that was felt at 20:18 pm in northern Bulgaria was the main one, there will be weaker aftershocks in the next hours and days, gradually diminishing in strength.
In case the shock was not the principal one, then another, stronger quake could be expected.
Experts point out that it is impossible to forecast what would happen next, adding if weaker shocks were to be felt overnight, it would be possible to say with great certainty that the main one happened at 20:18 pm.
According to the Mediterranean Seismology Center no aftershocks have yet been registered.
Solakov, on his part, stated that Vrancea is a deep epicenter with very few aftershocks.
The 5.3-point earthquake was felt strongly all over northern Bulgaria at 20:18 pm. The epicenter is in the Vrancea area, where a major fault line caused dozens of quakes in recent years.
