A legal claim has been filed against the astrologer, Emil Leshtanski, the Haskovo Regional Prosecutor informed Tuesday.
According to Bulgaria's Penalty Code an individual disseminating via radio, phone or through other channels misleading information about an accident or a false alarm can face up to two years behind bars, or a fine between BGN 500 and 5,000 when the perpetrator has a clean criminal record as it is in Leshtanski's case.
The legal claim accuses Leshtanski of unfounded predictions that Bulgaria's southern city of Haskovo was going to be hit on Easter by a devastating earthquake.
The charge can be upgraded to terrorism after the conclusion of the current legal proceedings.
